Blues Element

Welcome to the home of Blues Element!

That’s right music lovers - the name of the band is "Blues Element".
Meaning, there’s an element of blues.
We LOVE the blues, so it's a very BIG element, but there's some other stuff mixed up in there too.
Depending on where you're sitting you might find us to be “more jazz than blues”, unless you are one of those who thought "more blues than jazz".
You may also notice some pop, funk, and country.
But not too much country; Iain tends to turn that into funk.

Anyway... if you have an open mind and ears, and if you’re interested in checking out some original 21st century jazzy blues tunes,
(we have 2 cd releases to date with the next cd almost ready to record - and that's where YOU come in.... more on *THAT* later)
then you’ve come to the right place!
Or, to one of the right places....
You can also visit us on MySpace
for updates, pictures, music and blogs.
As you will see however, we have not been very diligent about keeping either site up to date, so we want to apologize for the sad, sorry state of our online presence! But
there really are plans in the works to start from scratch and redo both sites! Stay tuned!

In the meantime, topmost in our hearts and minds is getting back into the recording studio.
We've recently heard about a new trend among independent musicians and other artists called *CROWD FUNDING*.

Crowd Funding allows a band access to extra funds in advance, in order to get the recording project started, rather than scrambling to pay off all the costs afterwards once the cds start to sell. Wikipedia's definition also refers to
"Seed money, sometimes known as seed funding, friends and family funding or angel funding". What it all boils down to in this case is that as a fan/friend/family member, you have the opportuntity to purchase your copy of the new cd in advance online through a secure method (PayPal), and have it shipped to you as soon as we get them from the manufacturer. Plus, we will include your *name(s) in the cd liner notes as a little thank-you.

We hope to start recording asap/before the end of the year (2011), so if you are interested in getting involved please visit the secure link below.
And don't forget to include your full mailing address when filling out the form!
If you do forget, or if you have any questions about how this works, send us an email to one of the usual addresses, or to the one associated with this account.

Thanks!

As mentioned above, we plan to overhaul the site soon, but in the meantime...

Blues Element Bio

Are You Ready

At the heart of Blues Element is the songwriting team of Jamie Browning and Iain Green.
They didn't mean to put a band together, but the songs keep pouring out... and they are now working on cd #3.

Their 2nd album "Are You Ready" was released in 2008 and features 12 original jazzy/blue future standards written by vocalist Jamie & drummer Iain, and brought to life at Wellesley Sound in Toronto with the help of Kenmi Chank - guitar, Garfield Stoddart - guitar, Jason Wilson - piano, Rhodes and B3, Justin Snikkar - bass,  Rebecca Campbell - background vocals, Jeff McCulloch - Engineer, and Yohann Francoise and Jeremy Cowie - Assistant Engineers. Jamie and Iain then had the good fortune and pleasure to record the vocals and then mix and master at Silverbirch Productions with amazing Mix Engineer Ted Onyszczak and Mastering Engineer Andy Krehm.  The cd has been well received by radio and fans alike, and is receiving spins around the world.

Blues Element's 2005 release "Baby's Got the Blues" is also still receiving airplay somewhere as you read this.

Recorded in the fall of 2004, Baby's Got The Blues was a whirlwind fun miracle that brought together the incredible and diverse talents of some of the best players in Toronto's sprawling musical community including Alec Fraser, Rod Phillips, Michael Fonfara, Michael Keith, Dave Powell, Bryan Huntley, and Kenmi Chank.

Recorded and mixed at Liquid Toronto with blues maestro Alec Fraser (Jeff Healey, Jimmy Bowskill, Broken Joe) wearing the engineer and producer hats, "Baby's Got The Blues" was originally to include one cover
song. That recording had to be put on the back burner due to an unsuccessful search to locate one of the publishers in order to obtain the licence to release it.  Jamie and Iain may one day attempt the search again, but for now they've agreed that it's less trouble to write their own tunes.

And that is certainly something they are happy to do, deep into writing and preproduction now for cd # 3.

Since the pair's music has been so well received by radio, traffic to their websites has been increasing on a daily basis, as have the sales of digital downloads. In 2006 BGTB track “It’s Not You” was included on the soundtrack of the feature film “Chicknapping”, and AYR track "(In) The City" has been selected for the soundtrack of 2009's "In Fear and Faith".  2009 saw the new cd capture the #6 spot on the Blind Lemon 2008 Top 20 Canadian Blues Albums, and
AYR track "What If You're Not Home" was a feature on the House of Blues Radio Hour.

Live Blues Element continues to be an evolving entity, but the show always starts with a fun, sexy and danceable mix of original tunes plus mid 20th century R&B, funk, blues, and jazz. Artists covered include Dinah Washington, Ruth Brown, James Brown, Louis Jordan and more. Musicians sharing the stage with Jamie & Iain from 2005 - 2007 include Jerome Tucker, Dane Wedderburn, Curtis Robinson, Kenmi Chank, Damon Hines, Victor Cruz, and Frank Horvat.
The 2008 hometown line up  featured Adam Rawski on lead guitar and either Jason Farrar or Justin Snikkar on bass. The "away games" line up brought to the stage Dave West on lead guitar and Andrew Stewart on bass. 2009 was an interesting mix adding Russel Williams on guitar, giving us the teams of Adam/Jason, Adam/Justin, Russell/Jason and Russell/Justin. A few special performances featured both guitarists. 2010 saw the addition of Mario Potestio to the guitar rotation, and 2011 introduced the band to bassist Eli Eisenberg. Also during 2010 and 2011 Jamie & Iain had the opportunity to perform AYR track "Hometown Blues" with the Jason Wilson Band, leading to the decision to include horns on the next release.

And speaking of which, you will be amazed at the stellar cast that has agreed to join Jamie and Iain in the studio for cd #3.... stay tuned...
